There are many locations within an urban environment that provide a beautiful glimpse to nature, without requiring leaving the city boundaries.
Composed of a small river that creates a series of small waterfalls, Sagdalen is a place that offers unique photographic opportunities for capturing long exposure shots. Although I have been passing by it daily on the way to work, I had barely paid attention to its beauty. Earlier this winter a good friend of mine and I grabbed our cameras, tripods and filters and went there in the cold.
The above picture was taken at the bottom of the Sagdalen area. From here one can capture a large part of the rock formations and shapes that the falling water crafts. This long-exposure shot was captured during the golden hour. My favorite effect is the frost taking over as the sun abandons the scene.
A 2-stop soft ND graduated filter and a 2-stop graduated warming filter were combined, with their dark sides opposite to each other, to increase exposure and warm up the rays of the setting sun. I increased a bit the clarity and enhanced the highlights in the post-processing.

About Georgios Kalantzopoulos
I was born in Athens, Greece, have lived in Italy, Germany and in Norway over the past 10 years. I have been always interested in photography but got the chance to become more serious about it in 2012 when I got my first DSLR. Photography provides me the excuse to discover landscapes I would not easily visit and lets me explore my creativity. I mainly enjoy landscape photography and I am also interested in nature, architecture and portraiture photography. Long-exposure and the creative combination of different filters are techniques that push my artistic boundaries.
