ViewRanger – the app that helps you get active outdoors – has launched a new collection of routes specifically for families seeking outdoor inspiration this half term.
The new School’s Out collection of family friendly walks from around the UK can be downloaded free of charge and includes route guides from branded publishers such as the National Trust and other partners including Get Out With The Kids, a website which supports parents taking up outdoor pursuits with their family. The School’s Out collection also includes guides from Capture Outdoors, an organisation dedicated to creativity in the outdoors, professional photographer Jo Bradford, and Beth Pipe, writer, hiker and founder of the Cumbrian Rambler.
Craig Wareham, ViewRanger co-founder, said: “Walking is a great way for families to enjoy time together and is one of the most easily accessible forms of exercise there is.
“By grouping this new selection of route guides as a family friendly collection, ViewRanger is making it easier for parents to plan a day out and explore a new area together. The guides can be downloaded quickly and stored on a mobile device so a mobile signal is not required to navigate using the guide.
“Photographs, waypoint information and other helpful content for each route are included within the digital route guides and the active navigation system alerts the user if they veer off track. ViewRanger also makes it possible for families to record their own walks and share them with the ViewRanger community and other friends via social media or email.”
The School’s Out collection includes:
- Coastal walks from the National Trust (North Yorkshire, Merseyside, East Sussex, Pembrokeshire and Northumberland)
- Dartmoor walks from Jo Bradford, professional photographer
- Cumbria walks from Beth Pipe, hiker, writer and founder of the Cumbrian Rambler
- Shropshire walks from Gav Grayston, Co-founder of Get Out With The Kids
- Northern Ireland walks by David Cleland, writer and photographer at Flixelpix
Each of the route guides in the School’s Out collection can be found on ViewRanger’s discovery tab – an area dedicated to discovering information-rich trail guides worldwide.
The discovery tab makes it quick to filter, browse and select routes and these new collections complement the current, extensive library of high-quality route guides available from more than 500 tourism and other outdoor guide publishing brands. Each route collection also has its own web page and links that make it easy for route collections to be shared and accessed whether the viewer is on the web or using the ViewRanger app.
